Parents’ Rights Upheld for Non-Academic Surveys

Governor Hassan signed HB 206, a bill that will establish a study committee to look at the non-academic surveys or questionnaires administered by a public school to its students. The bill requires districts to adopt a policy that provides notification to parents of non-academic surveys prior to distribution. It also allows parents to opt their child out of questionnaires either in writing or electronically. The law goes into effect 8/25/15.

This bill had a roll call vote in the House. Check here to see how your Representatives voted. A “yea” vote was to support the bill; a “nay” vote was against the bill. The Senate passed the bill with amendments on a voice vote.
