Education Bills, Week of March 3, 2014

Tuesday, March 4, 2014

There are no additional public hearings scheduled for any bills before the House Education Committee. However, there is still an opportunity to contact them before they exec these bills. Please consider contacting the House Education Committee. Phone calls are the most effective way to make an impact. The HEC’s email is HouseEducationCommittee@leg.state.nh.us

The public may attend subcommittee work sessions and executive sessions, but is not given the opportunity to speak. An Inexpedient to Legislate (ITL) recommendation means that they oppose the bill. An Ought to Pass (OTP) recommendation means they support the bill.  The HEC meets in the Legislative Office Building (LOB) room 207.

The following bills will be debated and voted by the full House of Representatives. Please contact your Representatives before Wednesday to either support or reject the committee’s recommendations. Legislators do not often hear from their constituents so emails, but especially phone calls, can be very effective.

HB 1247, requiring the department of education to share costs of implementing statewide online assessment technology requirements.

committee recommendation: ITL  11-7

HB 1463, relative to the definitions of “priority school” and “focus school.”

committee recommendation: interim study  14-5

HB 1507, relative to university system of New Hampshire in-state tuition rates for students domiciled in New Hampshire.

committee recommendation: ITL  12-6

HB 1534, establishing a commission to study fiscal disparities between public school districts.

committee recommendation: OTP  13-6

The following couple weeks are referred as “cross over.” This is the period when bills that passed the House will be forwarded to the Senate, and vice versa.
