Did you know that GSHE did a survey in 2021 and roughly 85% of families spend less than $1000 per child per year to homeschool their children?
It doesn’t require expensive co-ops, new curriculum, or other fancy things to provide a great education for your kids.
GSHE has a ton of resources to help you keep more of your hard-earned money.
The first year may be more expensive, in part because families often buy new curriculum before knowing what fits their kids’ needs and goals. That’s why we encourage new homeschoolers to go slow, to “deschool” for a while, look at how their children learn, and figure out objectives while you explore the range of resources that may work well for your children.
Used curriculum is widely available, and we have GSHE Marketplace – on Facebook and our forum — to connect NH buyers and sellers of used homeschool resources.
Libraries are a fabulous source for all kinds of materials, including discount passes to museums and cultural centers.
The GSHE website also has a massive database of entirely free resources and teacher discounts.
Don’t replace one expensive drop-off program with another. Many of these new co-ops are essentially expensive day-care centers; few offer more than you can already do on your own or with a group of friends. Remember, homeschooling doesn’t need to be Monday through Friday, 8am to 3pm. You can share supervision with other families, a trusted adult, or mature teen. Homeschooling also doesn’t require long days filled with busy-work and interruptions like traditional school. You are free to schedule learning around your family’s life and make it work for you.
You know and love your children best. You make big decisions for them every day. You absolutely can create a learning experience and environment that fit their unique needs and goals. And you can do it without a big budget.
